Don't Wait to Mail Your Holiday Packages

There are six fewer shopping and mailing days this year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. But, the Postal Service expects to be able to deliver the season's greetings and gifts on time, thanks to new technology and extra service hours.

The busiest day at the Post Office is expected to be December 16th. So, the best assurance for timely delivery, is to get all your mailing done early.

Some East Texans are taking the advice.

"It was a package that was going to my mother in law actually for my brother in law so she was going to receive it and give it to him on Christmas Day," says Yvettee Debarr. "So I wanted to make sure she had it with the rest of the presents my husband has already taken over so that everything is there on Christmas morning."

Here are some holiday mailing tips for you. The Post Office says always use the correct zip code. If you don't know it, check their web site. Remove batteries from toys and wrap them separately. Always use a return address. Use strong, reinforced tape. They suggest you do not use string. It never hurts to place a return label inside the package to ensure mailing.
