SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - A Mississippi man lead East Texas authorities on a high speed chase after he was sprayed in the face with pepper spray.

It all started around 8:40 Tuesday morning when a Smith County Constable stopped Anthony Smylie, 48, for a license plate obstruction on Interstate 20 near Highway 155. Authorities say a K-9 unit alerted the constable to possible drugs in the SUV.

The constable asked Smylie and his female passenger, Catina Smylie, 36, to get out of their SUV, but authorities say Anthony Smylie got back in and took off, leaving Catina Smylie on the side of the road.

Both Smith and Gregg County deputies chased the man, for about 30 minutes, reaching speeds of 100 miles per hour.

During the chase, deputies say the Smylie threw two bundles of marijuana out the window.

Eventually, deputies were able to throw down spikes stopping Smylie on FM 1252 near Liberty City. Deputies arrested the couple. Anthony Smylie is charged with evading arrest and possession of marijuana. Catina Smylie is charged with possession of marijuana. Both are in the Smith County jail.
