HUGHES SPRINGS, TX (KLTV) - The search for an East Texas murder suspect is over. 29-year-old Glen Bowling was arrested last night in Gulf Port, Mississippi. Bowling was found by Louisiana authorities asleep in a car at a roadside park.
Bowling was wanted for the murder of his step father, 47-year-old Patrick Cathey. Cathey was found dead from blunt force trauma in his Hughes Springs home over the weekend. Neighbors told us Cathey had taken his stepson in to try and help him out.
"I knew he was trouble, but Patrick and his mother, I guessed they loved each other and that was part of the deal," said Jerry Golden, Cathey's neighbor. "So, Patrick took it as it came and he wound up...[paying] the ultimate sacrifice. It's just a sad situation, it's bad for everybody involved. Patrick was a good old boy, I would have never thought nothing like this would happen to him especially here. Patrick the step father, the step father that this happen to. He was just a good of a guy as you find anywhere. I've never met nobody that talked nicer to you, or treated you better."
KLTV 7 has also learned that Bowling is a registered sex offender. He's accused of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl back in 2004. Authorities tell us Bowling will be extradited back to East Texas by the end of the week.
