TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Today the city of Tyler debuted their south Tyler trail system, giving East Texans several additional miles of recreational trails right through the city.
Tyler Mayor Barbara Bass opened up the southern Tyler trail extension in a special ribbon cutting ceremony. The two and a half mile concrete trail connects to the current Rose Rudman trail, making a five mile route through south Tyler.
Mayor Bass believes the biggest benefits for users to be health related.
"It will open up more opportunities for people to just step out and walk or run and just improve their quality of life," said Bass.
Tyler has already received grant funding for a future trail extension. The plan, which is still in the works, would include an additional one mile extension along Old Jacksonville Road.
