Vietnam Veterans Welcomed Home In Longview

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - There were no parades when they came home, no pats on the back. Only empty airports and lonely bus rides for Vietnam veterans. But today in Longview that all changed.  The Patriot Guard Riders and Welcome Home Soldiers had a homecoming for Vietnam veterans at the Elks lodge in Longview. Members of each branch were recognized and decorated with an honorary welcome home medal. Vietnam veterans from all over East Texas came to hear what they had waited so long for, thank you.

"Words can't express my feelings for this. It's long overdue, and I'm proud to be here," said Army Vietnam veteran John Preston of Tyler.

"Its pretty special, something I've never been exposed to," said John Crow, Army Vietnam veteran from Jacksonville.

"They seem to forget the 58-thousand young men that didn't come home," said Navy Vietnam veteran Mike Latham.
