WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) - Some East Texas students decided to give back to those who protect our country. Organized by school's student council, students at Stanton Smith Elementary in Whitehouse adopted Army Ranger Kelby Cranston. The son of a teacher at Stanton Smith, Cranston serves in Afghanistan. Raising more than $700, students were able to send over 250 pounds of snacks and toiletries to Cranston's unit.
"It made me feel really good to know that I'm helping people that are fighting for us because if they weren't there we wouldn't be able to do what we're doing," said Tori Cardwell, a fifth grader.
"I'm really happy that we could do this for them because it's nice to help them out because they help us out," said Mana Sadat, also a fifth grader.
Ranger Cranston will soon be able to meet his benefactors. He arrives home for a two week leave in late may and plans on stopping by to say thanks.
