Director of Lufkin Boy's and Girl's Club arrested; parents react

LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Patrick Sanders is in the Angelina County jail after being charged with three counts of sexual performance of a child. Sanders is the director of the Boys and Girls Club in Lufkin.

"I'm just shocked, you know, I really am shocked," said one parent.

Parents were searching for words as they picked up more than their children at the Lufkin Boys and Girls Club.

"Right now, I really can't say, but they sent a letter saying that it's going to be taken care of and safety is first for the children," said the parent.

The Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Deep East Texas agrees.

"The safety of our children is the most important thing, and we want parents to feel comfortable bringing their kids to the Boys and Girls Club," said director, Jeff Woods. "Our staff is very qualified and able to handle the operation in his absence."

However, that doesn't stop parents from worrying.

"You trust your children being in care of someone else," one parent said.

As children stepped off the bus into the care of the Boys and Girls Club one parent mom is sure of one thing.

"I mean, your children are your number one concern," a parent said. "It's hard to hear news like that, but I'm pretty sure it's going to be taken care of. Until then, I'll just keep a close eye and take care of my children."

Some were in disbelief and wanted proof.

"I'm a firm believer in innocent until proven guilty," a parent said. "I've known Patrick for years so we'll see what comes out of this. I hope it's untrue."

It won't change his opinion of the Boys and Girls Club.

"If it's true, then one bad seed isn't going to spoil the whole bushel of apples," a parent said.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>

The last time we talked about the Kilgore Bulldogs, quarterback Buddy Jackson and wide receiver Jonathan Shepherd were apart of the 800-meter relay team that won gold at the 2017 state track meet. But today they are back in the pads, and looking to turn their speed into touchdowns.  Competing in District 9-4A, Kilgore has always had a strong run game that helped them become the 2016 District Champs.
