Could Holiday Stop Spreading Flu Bug?

Testing done by the Texas Department of Health confirms at least ten students in Winona ISD are out sick with Type B influenza. The flu strain is commonly found in children. Health officials say more testing needs to be done...but it's possible the same bug is affecting students in Gilmer, Big Sandy and Union Grove.

Dr. Paul McGaha, regional director of the Texas Department of Health says, "The influenza B can classically happen in clusters, in schools. I've never seen one personally in East Texas like this, but apparently this year could be our year.

Health officials hope recent school closings will stop the virus from spreading further. They will know more when additional samples are tested.
