TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Area residents that plan on visiting The Discovery Science Place can rest assured that the visit will be highly educational, fun and, most importantly, safe according to Executive Director Michael Shanklin. Due to recent developments, the staff at Discovery Science Place has reviewed their cleaning and sanitizing policy and has increased the sanitizing process for the heavy, hands-on manipulative items such as their LEGOs, golf balls, gears and exhibit surfaces. The hands-on museum has also increased their janitorial staff to ensure regular sanitation of all exhibit areas.

"As one of the top science-centers in the nation, I'm pleased to make our patrons aware that all DSP exhibit halls and hands-on items are sanitized frequently," explained Shanklin. "But due to the recent health alert, we are increasing our efforts by adding hand sanitizing stations at the entrance to the museum, in the Hometown USA hall, Discovery Landing and in the Helping Hands Hallway."

Shanklin went on to explain that visiting the hands-on family science center is a tremendous opportunity to provide meaningful informal educational experiences that reinforce traditional classroom learning.

The Discovery Science Place features over 85 hands-on exhibits and three interactive, imaginative exhibit halls. Last year approximately 60,000 children, parents and teachers shared the "hands-on", science-based experiences provided by our permanent and traveling exhibits.

Recognized as one of the Top 25 Science Centers in the nation by Parents magazine, Discovery Science Place is a non-profit, hands-on learning environment whose purpose is to open young minds to science, technology, math and cultures in order to meet the challenges of our times. Located at 308 N. Broadway in downtown Tyler, it is supported by grants, donations, admissions, memberships and special events.
