TYLER, TX (KLTV) - He tried to surprise his mother with an early return, but his aunt let the cat out of the bag, told his mom and then she surprised him with a hero's welcome.

Sergeant Ricky Moore was greeted with hugs and kisses just hours ago at the Tyler airport. Moore is serving his second tour of duty in Iraq. He's an eight year army veteran and has served in Kuwait and Korea. The sergeant says it's good to be home.

"Family is the best part," said Sergeant Moore. "[I love] just being home. Seeing everybody's face, and that's it."

"I am just so glad to be here today and everybody surprise him 'cause he tried to surprise me to come in so I wanted to surprise him," said the soldier's mom, Linda Moore.

Sergeant Moore's grandfather is recovering from kidney surgery and Moore wanted to come home and give him a hug.
