"Does It Work?": Loud 'n' Clear

By Joe Terrell - bio | email

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It looks like one of those bluetooth hands-free cell phone devices, but it's really a super-duper hearing device. You've seen the Loud 'n' Clear on countless commercials. We put it, and the claims you've seen on TV to the "Does It Work?" test.

The Loud 'n' Clear comes in a box with the two batteries it needs plus two spares. The little hook that goes over your ear, comes off and turns around. So, it doesn't matter if you're left eared or right eared.

At first it took a few minutes to get used to how loud everything was. I took a stroll through the newsroom to see if anyone was talking about me. If they were, there's no way I would have known. I heard everything everyone was saying...all at once.

Makers claim the Loud 'n' Clear is so great at amplifying noises you can hear a pin drop from across the room. We found a small coupling of two rooms where it was quite to do the pin drop test. Out of five pin drops, I did hear three of them.

I decided to take the thing out on the street. Wow!

If it were not for the cars and trucks and apparently super-sized birds chirping... I would have been able to hear all the people talking on their cell phones. Also, the wind caused some problems for me.

There was some white noise in the device that made it difficult to hear whispering, but there is no doubt, in a fairly quiet room...you can hear more than you can without it.

Does it work?

Trouble is, the Loud 'n' Clear is a sound amplifier that amplifies everything. If the room is quiet, you'll hear better when one person speaks, but if you're in a loud environment, you get everything even louder. What it needs is a filter.

For the price, it may be worth a try. We give the Loud 'n' Clear a "Maybe".

We paid $14.99 for the Loud 'n' Clear at Walgreens. You can find more information on this, and every product we've tested on KLTV.com. Just look for the "Does It Work" link on the bottom of the home page.
