WHITE OAK, TX (KLTV) - One East Texan is using the internet to earn a big scholarship.

Brandy Howard has made two 30 second video entries and submitted them to a web site called "U-Promise Tuition Tales".

"It's only 30 seconds so you really got to condense what you say," explained the 20-year-old. "I got out my camera put it on my little tripod outside. I did about 30 or 40 different times trying to get it down to 30 seconds and I finally made it."

Her goal is to convince people why she should be the lucky winner of a $10,000 scholarship.

"Pretty much, I just said what my goals were in life; get married [and] become a nurse," said Howard. "That's all I've really ever wanted."

Howard is a neonatal nurse major and will enroll in ETBU in the fall.

"That's me in a few years hopefully," said Howard pointing to a poster that depicts her as a nurse.

For her, this scholarship money would be a blessing.

"Any money I can get, I'll take, so it's a really good scholarship, $10,000," said Howard. "Most of the others that I've looked at and applied to their only $1000."

The goal of the contest is for Howard to get as many viewer votes as she can on the tuition tales web site.

"You can do it every 24 hours," she explained. "All you do is enter an e-mail address and click vote so it's very easy!

Howard knows the competition is stiff, but then again she's counting on East Texas to pull her through.

"There's about three that are up in the thousands, so I really have a long ways to go in order beat them but I think I can get there," she said. "I have lots of friends, family, and East Texas now!

Right now, she has a little more than 150 votes. So she needs your help. Click here to vote. The contest ends May 3rd.

The John Tyler Lions always seem to look sharp in their uniforms. But thanks to East Texas lawyer Keith Miller, the Lions will look better and play safer. Helmets that advertise lowering the impact of hits, and possibly reduce the amount of concussions, come with a hefty price-tag. Miller's donation of 7,500 dollars, will go to help the lions cover that cost. "Keith Miller's been a big sponsor of John Tyler High School football program for years now.  I know it's...More >>
