JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) - One student is still in the hospital after a Jacksonville ISD bus was hit by an 18-wheeler. Officials say the student was moved to Children's Hospital in Dallas sometime Monday afternoon. The student's injuries are not believed to be life-threatening. An official statement as to the students condition will be released once JISD has permission from the student's family.
After the accident on Loop 456 and Highway 69 in Jacksonville, 15 children were taken to the hospital. Authorities say the truck driver ran a red light.
The bus, headed to Nichols Intermediate, was carrying students ages 10-12 years old. It happened some time after 7:30 a.m. Monday morning. According to officials, the 18 wheeler was traveling southbound on Highway 69 when it hit the back tire of the bus which was headed westbound on Loop 456.
11 children were taken to Mother Frances hospital both by ambulance and by parents. Four children were taken to ETMC in Jacksonville. All but one of the children have been released.
The driver was carrying over 80,000 pounds of bottled water. He was cited by police for failure to control speed.
