SABINE RIVER (KLTV) - At about 11:30 this morning a man somehow lost control of his SUV and ended up driving into the Sabine River. We are told it happened off Highway 69 North on the Smith and Wood County line.

While his SUV did not go into the river all the way, the front of the car was submerged far enough to keep him trapped in his vehicle. He was the only person the SUV. The man was rescued by authorities and is awake and alert.

KLTV talked to a person who witnessed the event. He said that after talking to the driver of the SUV it appears he fell asleep at the wheel, but that has not yet been confirmed by authorities.

The driver, a man in his 30s, has been taken to a local hospital. Authorities have not released a name.

We have a reporter on the scene. We will continue to keep you updated as we receive more information.
