TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Taking advantage of a nice sunny day, Angel challenged me to a round of putt-putt golf in Tyler. Besides golf, he likes playing video games, football, riding his bike and spending time outside.
Angel is about to turn 13.
"Are you going to be a good teenager or a bad teenager," I asked him.
"A good teenager which means following rules," Angel replied.
Today, he had no problems following the rules making several hole-in-one shots. It was the boost of confidence he needed after being removed from his home in 2005 and placed in foster care. I asked Angel if it was hard being away from his family.
"Well it's been a while since I've seen them but I look at their pictures and then I get sad," he said.
What makes him even more sad are some of his past memories.
"My dad had abused me and I had gone to school and I said my hand hurt and he had burned me or something," explained Angel with a sad face.
But he's ready to start over and, although anxious about adoption, he welcomes a forever family.
"It would be good for me because I wouldn't have to move from house to house," he said.
Angel is a resilient young man who likes to have fun. This 5th grader enjoys reading and has almost finished the Harry Potter series. He does, however, need a little motivation in the classroom.
"What could make school better or easier for you," I asked him.
Without missing a beat Angel replied with a big grin, "Not getting homework."
Angel would like to be in a family that is active and has other children but most of all, he just wants the Gift of Love.
