Former Negro League baseball player to speak at Jarvis

HAWKINS, TX (KLTV)-- Former Negro League player William ''Bill'' Blair, Jr. will speak at Jarvis Christian College's athletic banquet this week.

The banquet will be Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall of the J.N. Ervin Religion and Culture Center on the campus of Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins.

Bill Blair pitched for the Indianapolis Clowns from 1946 to 1951 and other Negro League baseball teams. His baseball career was highlighted when he pitched a no-hitter during the Denver Post Tournament. He has played with baseball greats such as Winfield Welch, Jesse "Hoss" Walker and Buster Haywood. Blair has toured with Jesse Owens and the Harlem Globetrotters.

Tickets are still available for the Jarvis Christian College Athletic Banquet. They are priced at $20 a ticket and $5.00 for students with the proper school ID.

We'll see how it all shakes out, but the good news is, the Wildcats appear to be district title contenders once again. Since winning 12 games in 2013, head coach Adam Cook and company have racked up a total of 13 victories the past three seasons.
