Kilgore, Tx (KLTV) - Lone Star Speedway had sat dormant for years.

No longer.

For the first time in five years, the speedway hosted the fastest cars in the country.

The "World of Outlaws" sprint cars were in Kilgore for the grand re-opening of the speedway.

"This has been a long time coming, if it all comes together, I am going to be so excited," said Lone Star owner Sam Hafertepe Sr.

With speeds up to 140 miles per hour, don't blink.

The 'Outlaws' are considered the top of the sprint car series.

"You have some of the best drivers in the country right here in Kilgore," said driver Steve Kinser, "This really is a once in a lifetime thing for these fans."

And it was worth it, a crowd in access of 10,000 crammed the speedway and watched hours of racing, in the end, it was a job well done.

"This was amazing," said one fan, "it is something that you can look back on and say, 'yeah, I was there."
