Rotarians Gather Against Polio

A world wide organization met in Tyler Saturday morning, with a goal of wiping away a once epidemic disease. Rotarians from three states gathered at UT Tyler today to discuss their efforts to rid America of polio.

Speakers came from as far away as the Philippines to talk about the impact the disease has across the world. Polio research has been one of the long-term goals of Rotary Clubs International, and they feel that goal is within reach.

Assistant District Governor Neal Maynard said, "We started this project in 1985, and in 2005, the hundred year anniversary of Rotary, we will eradicate polio."

Although polio cases have greatly decreased in America, it is still an epidemic worldwide. The slogan for this year's program is "Sow the Seeds of Love".
