TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A "7 On Your Side" alert about house hunters that are targeting more and more East Texans.

The Better Business Bureau says someone is mailing out hand-written or copied letters saying they're interested in buying your home, but the BBB suspects it's a scam and that they're looking for folks facing foreclosure to take advantage of.

"Some of them are going to purchase your house and let you live in it and rent it from them," said Linda Bailey with the Better Business Bureau of East Texas. "They'll tell you can buy it back and we'll sell it back to you. We're just going to get you out of trouble right now. Well it turns out that the house is more expensive than it's even worth when they try to sell it back to you so you can't afford it. So they've taken it, they've taken all your equity. All of a sudden you're out of a home and you're out in the cold."

It is becoming more widespread already hitting Emerald Bay, Bullard and now folks in Whitehouse.

If you get one of these hand-written letters and you are in trouble, the BBB warns this is not a solution.

They advise calling 1-888-995-HOPE or visiting www.makinghomeaffordable.gov
