Away from the ceremony and crowds, some East Texans chose to remember America's veterans in quiet solitude at the graves of their friends and family. At cemeteries all over East Texas, families of veterans came to pay their respects to those who served our nation. They placed flags on the markers of vets and walked among the many graves of those who had fought from World War I to modern day. For a generation all but gone now, it's a day of proud remembrance, but one that has a terrible price attached.
Thousands of American flags were placed on the graves of veterans by Longview area veterans organizations.
