CHRISTIAN GROUP'S OUSTER OF GAY STUDENTS DIVIDES COLLEGE

A Christian group's request that an openly gay student relinquish a leadership role has caused controversy at Central College in Pella, Iowa -- where some students say the group should be kicked off campus. Brad Clark remains student body president at Central, which has a nondiscrimination policy. But he was asked to step down from his role organizing worship services for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship. That prompted the student senate to review the fellowship's constitution, which states that InterVarsity does not discriminate on the basis of sexual orientation but holds its leaders to a higher standard. Student leaders then voted to continue to recognize the group.
