NACOGDOCHES, TX (KTRE) - Nacogdoches police have charged a man accused of kidnapping his two small children with aggravated kidnapping, aggravated robbery and sexual assault.

A spokesman with the police department said Luis Antonio Gallegos, 22, kidnapped the mother of his children at knife point and is charged for stealing her Chevy Tahoe.

The mother has been treated at a Nacogdoches hospital and released.

Local law enforcement issued an Amber Alert for a girl, age 4, and boy, age 2, at about 1:40 p.m. Tuesday. Officials with the police, sheriff's office and constables' offices arrested Gallegos in a home in south Nacogdoches around 4:30 p.m.

The home belonged to a cousin of Gallegos. Sgt. Greg Sowell said law enforcement was about to search the Briarforest subdivision house-by-house. The cousin told law enforcement that her door was locked, which was a surprise to her because she said she never locked her door. That is when law enforcement entered the house and made the arrest and recovered the children.

The cousin said she did not know Gallegos was in her house.

"I just wanted to say thank you to everyone," said Melissa Russell, a Deep East Texas Regional Amber Alert plan-coordinator. "This was our first activation and the children were located within two and a half hours of the initial alert."
