East Texas Girl Tries to Win Nashville Singing Contest

Those who work closely with Cheyane Smith say she has an amazing voice and is destined for stardom.

That's high praise for someone only 10 years old, but she's full of bravado.

The bubbly fifth grader from Ore City came in 2nd at a Branson Missouri national talent search contest in October and that qualified her for another trip to the national finals in April at Nashville.

Singing gospel and country, she was in studio Sunday cutting a new 10 song C.D.

A normal grade schooler, she likes science and art, but with a mature voice, could be the next Lee Ann Rimes or Faith Hill although she says she won't imitate anyone.

Smith will go to Nashville on April 26th to compete for a 100 thousand dollar recording contract.
