Too much red meat is deadly

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Here's some food for thought. In East Texas, we love our red meat but too much can be deadly.

A new and large study based on half a million adults shows a huge risk of dying from heart disease and cancer, just from eating a third of a pound of red meat every day.

On the other hand, eating white meats like fish and chicken show a decrease in those diseases.

A dietician we interviewed at U.T. Health Center says it's all in how you prepare the meats. For instance, eating a lot of fried chicken can be just as unhealthy. For healthier options, try baking and broiling meat.

Also, opt for leaner cuts of meat and turkey alternatives, and, as with everything, moderation is key.
