LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Kendall Beard's rise to stardom has been fast.
"I've just been there to carry her train around, but when she first told me that she wanted to audition for Idol, my first thought, I said, 'no, you don't,'" said Kendall's mom, Lisa Beard.
She quickly changed her tune when she saw how bad Kendall wanted to be on the show.
"It's life-changing for one thing, but it was so exciting when she made it through the first audition," said Kendall's mom.
"This past year it's like a dream, said Kendall. "Like, I say, I wake up every morning and I just can't believe, I'm, like, did I really go through this?"
A dream her dad has shared since the start.
"Whenever she was young, she told me at 14, 'Dad I want to be a singer,' and I said, 'well baby, if you're going to be a singer, you're going to be tied up on weekends,'" said Darrell Beard.
That did not stop Kendall. Her parents have been with her every step of the way, never missing a beat.
"To see the courage and to be aggressive enough to go after her dreams...I could not help, but be so proud of her," her dad said.
No matter what stage she is on, her parents know she is one-of-a-kind.
