TENNESSEE VOTERS REMOVE BAN ON STATE LOTTERY

Tennessee lawmakers can create a state lottery now that voters there have lifted a constitutional ban. The measure was approved by 53 percent of those who cast ballots Tuesday. Supporters say that will enable residents who now buy lottery tickets in neighboring states to support education in Tennessee instead. Southern Baptists, United Methodists and other lottery opponents wanted to preserve Tennessee's status as one of only three states with no legalized gambling. The other two are Utah and Hawaii.
