GREGG COUNTY, TX (KLTV) - We talked to the family of 45-year-old Steven McWilliams about his life, and what he left behind. A family photo of McWilliams showed it all; a smiling father with his loving children.

"When you catch him smiling, when he wasn't so worried about having to raise seven kids and support a family, [it] would light up any room," said Savanah Daniel, McWilliam's stepdaughter. "My dad left behind seven kids, eight grand kids and one on the way."

For Savanah, who's pregnant, and her family, the murder of their father seems unreal and unfair.

"It went from kind of a good day thinking about scheduling being induced to have a baby to my dad being murdered," said Daniel. "My dad was a really good man. He loved everybody he would do anything for anybody."

"Family was his thing," said Lanell McWilliams the murder victim's ex-wife. "Even though we were divorced, we're going to miss him. He would have always been here."

Now, the McWilliams family is left wondering why their father's suspected killer could take his life.

"We don't know what drove him to kill my dad; what reasoning he had to take him away," said Daniel. "He was a really good man. He made some bad decisions which I think are what made his life come to an end yesterday."

"I know that I'm going to have to forgive but I don't right now," said his ex-wife. "I'm very, very, angry right now. Very, very angry."

Smith is being held on $1,000,000 bond for the murder charge and a $75,000 bond for the aggravated assault charge.
