Taylor Hemness

Taylor Hemness joined KLTV in February 2009, as co-anchor of KLTV 7 News at 10, and as a reporter. Three and a half years later, Taylor started anchoring another show as well, when East Texas News at 4 launched in 2012.

He began his career at KTAB in Abilene, Texas at age 19, working as a weekend sports anchor. Taylor remained at KTAB for several years, and added sports and news reporting to his list of responsibilities.

He left Abilene in 2005 to become main anchor and executive producer at KSAN in San Angelo. After two years there, Taylor went to work for our sister station in Lufkin, KTRE. Along the way, he also worked for an NPR radio station, and even got to cover some big-time sporting events, like Annika Sorenstam playing at Colonial, while interning at NBC 5 in Dallas.

Taylor grew up in the small East Texas town of Groveton, but left the Piney Woods for the "Big Country" of Abilene to attend Abilene Christian University, where he graduated in May of 2004 with a B.S. in Broadcast Journalism.

Taylor and his wife, Katie, were married in January 2006. Their oldest son, Tanner was born in August of 2012, and their twin sons, Korben and Thatcher, were born in July of 2014. Taylor also has a great dane named Romeo.

In his free time, Taylor likes to go out to eat and to the movies with his wife. He is also an avid reader. Sports is another interest. Taylor says, "While I may be the worst golfer on the face of the planet, I still love it." He generally enjoys most sports, but during the fall, you can usually catch him with his son in front of the TV on Sundays, watching the NFL, and specifically the Miami Dolphins.

Taylor says he first visited Tyler when he was a freshman in high school, as part of a UIL Regional Academic meet. He's always liked the city, and is now excited to call it home.

Some of the more interesting assignments that Taylor has been involved with include working with the Texas Dept. of Transportation for a day for a story about "Hot Jobs." About that, he says, "I actually got to drive a roller. Thankfully I didn't hit anyone!" He has also been stranded on the "high ground" of a parking lot during flood coverage, and has even eaten rattlesnake on camera during the Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup!
