The wheels are turning at Lon Morris college, as the school prepares for their first football team since 1940.
Lon Morris officially introduced Johnnie Richey as head coach Tuesday. The school is still trying to finalize where the Bearcats' games will be played, plus secure a practice field and weight room. The Bearcats will compete in 2010.
"When we first started thinking about this, I said, there's no way," Coach Richey said of the challenge. "The more I thought about it, the more I talked to Coach Dotson (athletic director) about it, the more excited I got. Not only was I intrigued, I was excited about having the opportunity to come in and build from the ground up."
Richey said East Texas will be the primary area for recruitment. They hope to ultimately join the same conference as TJC, Kilgore and Trinity Valley.
