East Texan To Fight For MMA State Belt

For years, Jacob Hart knocked the competition off their feet on the football field or with a pitch at TJC.

Those days are over, but Jacob is still knocking the competition over... and out.

"My last match, August 11, was 28 seconds. I beat a guy 28 seconds in the first round.," Jacob said.

In five matches, Jacob is undefeated and has never once been injured in the cage, although he has inflicted some pain.

When asked where the force comes from, Jacob laughed. "I don't know! I'm a nice guy, I just try to end it as quick as I can and try not to get hit."

What's impressive about Jacob's career is he has only trainied in mixed martial arts for about a year and a half.

But he is a well rounded fighter, learning jujitsu, judo and muay thai kickboxing to excel in the cage.

"I missed competition so this is kind of another avenue for me to compete."

Although Jacob has never been injured during a fight, he recognizes how intense and extremly dangerous mixed martial arts can be.

We've heard it before, but don't try this at home.

"It's a dangerous sport," Jacob said. "You've just got to be as careful as you can, heal your wounds, and be as safe as you can while you are fighting."

Jacob quickly transformed from pitcher to fighter. But in a fight, he transforms into someone completely different.

"Honestly everything goes blank when I get in there. It just goes blank. Whatever comes naturally, when they come in there and make the fight with me, then whatever comes naturally, whatever I've been training, it just comes out."

Don't let his fighting demeanour fool you.  Jacob is a nice guy, but then again would his competitors agree?

"Probably not," he laughed.

Jacob will compete for the Texas Amateur MMA light-heavyweight belt Thursday, August 23 in Dallas.
