LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Police arrested a Shepherd woman Tuesday night after they say she offered an officer a sexual act in exchange for money.

Because Sandra Michelle Smith, 35, has been convicted five previous times for the offense of prostitution, the charge is a state jail felony, Det. J.B. Smith said.

J.B. Smith said Sandra Smith approached the plain-clothed officer near the intersection of Groesbeck Avenue and North Timberland Drive at 8:55 p.m. She was arrested without incident.

Sandra Smith's previous convictions were in Harris County. Tuesday was the first time she had been arrested in Angelina County, according to jail records.

J.B. Smith said the officer was not working undercover on the charge, but was in the area for other assignments when the woman approached him.
