TYLER, TX (KLTV) - It was a big day for Bernice Bach as she celebrated her 110th birthday. Bernice Bach has been around for more than a century. At age 110, Bach is witty and full of smiles.
"It feels almost impossible to think that I've lived this long, but I'm thankful," said Bach.
She is thankful for the memories of a life well lived.
"There are too many memories in my life," said Bach. "I've had such a good life."
Born in Iowa, Bach spent her adult life in Oklahoma. She was a mother of two, nurse, member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 90 years, and, in her free time, she loved to travel.
"I've been to Alaska, I've been to Hawaii and all over the United States," said Bach.
Her son, Phil Kahler, says his mom is independent.
"She quit driving at 99 on her own volition," said Kahler. "When she was in her 80s, she was delivering Meals on Wheels. She made the comment one time that most the people she was older than the people she was delivering to."
Kahler brought Bach to Tyler 10 years ago. She may have slowed down a little, but she remains passionate about the things she loves, like bingo.
"We play three times a week," said Bach. "We have fun. I won three games the other day."
And, of course, she has a favorite food: Onion rings and shrimp. But for this meal, birthday cake was on the menu, along with hugs from family, and a surprise visit from State Representative Bryan Hughes.
An inspiration to all, Bush says she takes it one day at a time.
"That's all you can do when you get to this age," said Bach.
Happy birthday, Bernice!
