Surveyors donate services to John Tyler

TYLER, TX - The local surveyors have always felt a strong sense of responsibility to the community, and historically, have taken action in response to that call. It is because of this commitment, that when Tyler ISD had requested boundary surveys that include both John Tyler and Robert E. Lee high schools, the local surveying community responded. The group selected one of the campuses, John Tyler High School, to donate a substantial amount of time and services to complete the entire boundary survey for the campus.

“We’re doing this as a community service project,” said Kevin Kilgore, owner of K.L. Kilgore & Co., Inc. “We wanted to do something special for this campus because of everything they have gone through.”

The Surveying Education Foundation of Texas, (SEFT) was founded in Tyler by a group of local surveyors who sought to enrich the lives of individuals and who also had the forward thinking to set a cornerstone for the future generations of surveying professionals. SEFT, along with the local chapter of Texas Society of Professional Surveyors, are dedicated to the furtherance of education by providing scholarships, books, research funding and the donations of time and materials to the Tyler Junior College and the University of Texas at Tyler surveying programs. Together, they have had a profound impact, not only on individual levels, but on community and statewide levels as well.

“We are appreciative of their generosity at the John Tyler site,” said Tim Loper, Tyler ISD Director of Facilities. “Boundary surveys did not previously exist and will be valuable documentations for future projects at these locations.”
