Cheap Eats: Pizza, tamales and quesadillas

EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - The days are getting shorter, but the deals are getting better. I covered quite a bit of territory to find lunches and a non water drink for $5 or  - including tax.

I hit the road early and headed east. A tip lead me to Moe's Pizza. The window sign promised a lot so I went inside.

Rami Hussein opened up the spot 10 years ago with a simple but effective strategy.

"I give them good food, good service, and I make them happy," he said.

It is a claim backed by the customers.

"The service is awesome!"

"[They are] friendly, real friendly," said another customer. "That's why we keep coming back, he takes care of us."

Their pepperoni mushroom calzone is just one of the 10 (that's right 10) deals costing only $5.

I watched the calzone creation in the kitchen. Hussein threw it in the oven and seven minutes later, it was done and delivered. A hefty two topping calzone and a soda is just $5.

I went back to Tyler to a spot that is hard to miss. Tortilleria y Taqueria Palacios took the Cheap Eats challenge and ran with it...back to their kitchen.

A super quesadilla and a coke comes out to $4.85, but two tacos and a soda only runs $4.

My final stop took me to Kilgore where a sign said it all. Walton's isn't just a drive-in, but a walk-in as well. A jukebox greeted me inside, along with a serious shuffleboard table. But, it was the food I was after, and a loyal customer soon pointed me in the right direction.

"Walton's has got some of the best tamales you ever eat...and they don't cost too high either."

The price is low, so low, Walton's gives you three tamales, chips and salsa, and a can drink for only $3.50.
