LINDALE, TX - The Lindale Independent School District and four of its campuses have been awarded Gold Performance Acknowledgements from the Texas Education Agency (TEA).
The Gold Performance Acknowledgements (GPA) were released Thursday in the TEA's final 2009 Accountability report. Gold Performance Acknowledgments recognize districts and campuses for high academic performance on various indicators, such as commended performance on Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS), college admissions tests, and Advanced Placement/International Baccalaureate (AP/IB) examinations.
Lindale ISD received a "recognized" rating from the TEA in July and was awarded with five GPA's for having commended scores in reading, writing and social studies. Commended means at least 30 percent of student in sub-groups (economically disadvantaged, minority, special education) scored a 90 or above on that portion of the TAKS test. The district also received GPA's for meeting requirements in the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) in both English-Language Arts and math. TSI is a state law that requires all students entering college to be assessed for college readiness in mathematics, reading, and writing unless the student qualifies for an exemption.
Lindale High School, one of four Lindale campuses to receive an exemplary rating from the TEA in July, received Gold Performance Acknowledgements in four categories. Those categories are attendance, TSI English-Language Arts and TSI Math. LHS was also commended in social studies.
LISD had appealed the TEA's "recognized" rating for Lindale Junior High School but the district has learned it did not win that appeal. However, the junior high campus did receive GPA's in four categories: attendance, commended reading, commended writing and commended social studies.
E.J. Moss Intermediate School received five GPA's: commended reading, commended math, commended science, Comparable Improvement reading and Comparable Improvement math. Comparable Improvement recognizes TAKS passing rates from year to year. E.J. Moss was also named an exemplary campus.
Another exemplary rated campus, Velma Penny Elementary School, received GPA's in three categories: commended math, commended writing, and Comparable Improvement math.
"This is another great recognition that our students and teachers have earned," Lindale ISD Superintendent Stan Surratt said. "Our district and campuses were awarded twenty-one Gold Performance Acknowledgements from the TEA. These 21 Gold Performance Acknowledgements and the exemplary and recognized ratings of our campuses and district are true indicators of the greatness of Lindale schools. Our students, instructional staff and principals deserve great credit."
