BIG SANDY (KLTV) - Thursday morning, 22-year-old Jessica Prescott of the Starville/Winona area found herself stuck on River Road with water flooding her vehicle, a 2007 Jeep. Big Sandy Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Jones says she also had a one-year-old child in the back seat of the Jeep.

The Big Sandy Volunteer Fire Department's Jeff Jones, David Dean and Chase Saxon, along with the Upshur County Fire Marshall Paul Stillman rescued the two.

"Water was inside the vehicle to the bottom of the dash," said Jones. "Someone told her she could detour that way to get to Big Sandy, but the road is still unpassable."

The assistant fire chief says that River Road is closed. East Texans should not drive around the barricades. Those who disregard the barricades risk getting swept away and/or damage to their vehicle.
