Released by Kevin Brownlee with Longview Police:

An 89-year-old Gilmer woman has succumbed to injuries received in a motor vehicle accident she was involved in on October 3, 2009.

Alice Anderson Smith, of Gilmer, was southbound in the 2100 block of North Eastman Road in a 2002 Toyota Corolla when she turned left in front of a 2004 Chevrolet Malibu traveling northbound on North Eastman. The Malibu collided with Smith's vehicle and Smith was transported to Good Shepherd Medical center by the Longview Fire Department/EMS with what appeared to be non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the Malibu, 28-year-old Sonya Caddel of Gilmer, and a five year old female passenger were both transported to Good Shepherd Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

Although Smith's injuries initially appeared to be non-life threatening, Smith died on October 10, 2009 at 9:57 p.m. The Longview Police Department was notified of her death on October 15, 2009.
