Released by Beverley Golden with UT Tyler:

TYLER, TX - Comedian Sinbad has moved his performance to Saturday, April 17 at The University of Texas at Tyler R. Don Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, Susan Thomae-Morphew, Cowan Center executive director, announced.

"We are very excited for Sinbad to be chosen for a popular television show even if it did postpone his Tyler appearance. The television show has not announced his appearance, so we aren't allowed to let you know yet. His October engagements were all moved, and our new date for Sinbad makes him our season closer. As sorry as we are for this inconvenience, we are happy to end our season with laughter," said Thomae-Morphew.

Sponsored by Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation of Lindale, Sinbad will take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 17. Media sponsors are CBS 19, East Texas Radio Group and Suddenlink.

Tickets are $31, $41, $46, $51 and $56 and can be purchased online at www.cowancenter.org, by phone at 903.566.7424 or at the box office. Box office hours are 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Sinbad first gained widespread attention as a finalist in Ed McMahon's 1983 "Star Search" talent contest for stand-up comedy. Sinbad won his round against fellow comedian Dennis Miller, appearing a total of seven times. He soon was cast on "The Redd Foxx Show." Today, he is now known worldwide for his concerts and tours with the Air Force Tops in Blue program.

The 6'5" funnyman played college basketball at the University of Denver. Although his athletic career was ended by an injury, he says everything he needed to know for comedy, he learned playing basketball.

Born David Adkins, the comedian also has appeared in movies and on television in such productions as "Necessary Roughness," "Houseguest," "Coneheads," "Jingle All the Way," "The Cosby Show," "A Different World," ‘The Cherokee Kid" and "The Sinbad Show."

Sinbad also is known for his televised concerts "Sinbad: Brained Damaged," "Sinbad and Friends: All the Way Live. . .Almost," "Sinbad: Bellbottoms and Afros" and "Sinbad: Son of a Preacher Man" well as his "Soul Music Festivals."

Comedy Central ranks Sinbad as one of the top stand-up comedians of all time.
