HOUSTON (AP) - About 900 Texas National Guard troops have donned their uniforms and marched off to prepare for a deployment to the Middle East.
The Houston Chronicle reports that about 6,400 stood in the rain to wave goodbye to the soldiers of the 72nd Infantry Brigade Combat Team as the paraded through downtown Houston.
The 72nd Infantry Brigade consists of about 3,000 troops from southern and central Texas. The Chronicle reports the brigade will form 1 of the biggest Texas military forces to be deployed overseas since World War II.
They'll report to Fort Bliss in El Paso for two months of training before shipping overseas by year's end.
