Released by Rhonda Bullard with the American Heart Association:
TYLER, TX - The American Heart Association's Tyler Chapter will host the Tyler Area Heart Walk on September 19 at the Robert E. Lee practice field and Rose Rudman Park. Registration begins at 8 a.m. The Walk begins at 9 a.m. Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics is the Walk's top sponsor.
"The purpose of the walk is to promote physical activity and heart-healthy living for individuals and families," said Rhonda Bullard, American Heart Association Tyler coordinator. "It has been shown that for every hour you walk, you can add two hours to your life. Our hope is that in the process of supporting the American Heart Association's biggest Tyler fundraiser of the year, we can also convince many participants to start a regular walking program. It's proven heart-healthy."
"Since bringing heart care to Tyler in 1983, we have learned the importance of supporting the research and education of the American Heart Association," said Lindsey Bradley, FACHE, president, Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics. "Patients in Tyler and the surrounding area see real results in new technology and information in the fight against heart disease. We are proud to be this year's main Walk sponsor."
According to AHA, every year, more than one million walkers participate in more than 450 events, raising funds to save lives from heart disease and stroke; America's numbers 1 and 3 killers.
Events at the walk include a Kid Zone, Jump Rope For Heart, health screenings, a fitness and nutrition area, and Happy Feet Shoe Clinic.
