CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - A state district judge says the Nueces County judge hearing the Mauricio Celis (seh-LEES') case must step aside.

Celis is a prominent Democratic fundraiser convicted earlier this year of pretending to be a lawyer. He's filed a motion for a new trial.

The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports in its online edition that Tarrant County state District Judge Louis Sturns ruled that state District Judge J. Manuel Banales must turn the case over to another judge. That's to maintain the appearance of fairness.
