MOUNT PLEASANT, TX (KLTV) - Charges have been filed against an East Texas man after a child was injured in an alleged Driving While Intoxicated crash.
Jason Dillard, 27, of Mount Pleasant has been charged by the Mount Pleasant Police Department with the state jail felony, DWI - Child Passenger. Police say additional charges are possible.
Just after midnight on July 19 officers responded to a vehicle accident on Spur 134. There, they found a pick-up truck flipped over on its roof near a creek just off the road. Authorities found Dillard and a child, believed to be his 5-year-old son, just outside the truck. They were taken to Texas Regional Medical Center.
Officers on the scene say their observations of Dillard made them suspicious as did reports from witnesses and evidence found on the scene. But, because of his injuries and needing to be taken to the hospital, Dillard was not arrested.
Dillard and the child were released from the hospital Sunday. Police are now searching for him.
If Dillard is convicted of the charge, he faces up to two years in a State Jail facility and/or a fine up to $10,000. Child Protective Services has also been notified of the situation.
