Soccer is growing in popularity in East Texas and at Spring Hill, some Panthers want the chance to represent their school on the soccer field.

Monday night dozens of club soccer players and their parents packed the Spring Hill ISD Administration Building for the school board meeting.

The crowd wanted the Spring Hill School Board to approve the start of a soccer team at the high school.  This was the second time the issue was brought to the board.  After hearing from the crowd, the school board voted to make the issue an agenda item for the July meeting, when they will vote yes or no.

"Over the years, the program has grown and the school board has some very progressive minded people on it so we're optomisitic," Don Woody said.

"There's kids here in Spring Hill just like the Longview kids or the Pine Tree kids, that should have the chance to play for their school district and have the chance to be noticed by scouts as well," parent Eric Cooper said.

The Spring Hill School Board delayed approving or opposing the issue until to July to allow the district more time to look at coaching possibilites and to talk to other 3A schools who have soccer programs.
