Group Seeks Animal Shelter In Wood County

Wood county animal rescue organizations say stray and abandoned animals are an enormous problem, and now they are asking for the counties help.  For years, Wood county residents have had to deal with stray and abandoned animals, many dumped on remote rural roads.  With no county animal shelter, or animal control officer the problem residents say is only getting worse.

Friday, a group called APET, or Animal Preservation of East Texas presented a petition to Wood County Commissioners, with more than 1,500 signatures on it.  They are asking the county to establish an animal shelter and fund a full time animal controll officer.  Anyone wishing to support APET is asked to call them at 800-715-3624.
