Track Star Ivery Donates To Boys & Girls Club

One East Texas track star is helping local kids put their best foot forward.

John Tyler and Baylor graduate LaKadron Ivery, a member of the Nike track team, gave the first in several donations of shoes to the Boys & Girls Club of East Texas.

LaKadron owns the store 'Shoe Fetish at the Broadway Square Mall in Tyler. Thursday, she and her mother donated house shoes, but will soon donate boots and tennis shoes. The shoes will be distributed to kids based on grades.

"We have progress reports that just came out and kids are going to get to walk away with shoes that have improved in their grades," Boys & Girls Club of East Texas Executive Director John Dixon said. "Wow, we just feel great to have a local talent such as LaKadron to bring out these gifts for these kids."

"I told my mom every chance that we get, I'm going to try and come back home and give back to someone," LaKadron said. "So donating to the Boys & Girls Club was my first agenda."

In all, 120 pairs of shoes will be donated to the boys and girls club.
