Mixed-use development coming to North Tyler

A huge development project hopes to revitalize north Tyler, beginning with affordable housing for East Texas seniors. 395 acres at the intersection of North Broadway and the Loop are going to be developed by a group called North Chase.

The first project - the Lake View Apartment Homes.

The 140 unit gated senior living community will be right next to a small private lake, and it will be the first elderly housing tax credit development in the City of Tyler since 1993.

"My mother is the one to keep inspiring me to look into the property, because she would not stop asking me - why would someone not develop that land? And I said, 'Mom, it cost too much to develop. There's no utility infrastructure out there.'  And she just said - that is a waste. In my house, you didn't waste anything," said Ed Thompson, the President of North Chase Development, LLC.

The project will benefit low to moderate income seniors age 55 and older. The first units will be ready to be lived in in late fall of next year.

"This project is the result of a shared vision between North Chase Development, the City of Tyler, the Tyler Economic Development Council, Tyler 21 and the citizens of Tyler," Thompson said. "I am excited to be part of something that many have dreamed about over the years."
