An East Texas couple is celebrating a very special wedding anniversary. FDR was president when they met and through prosperity and hard times, they stayed together. Saturday, J.W. and Mable Best celebrated 70 years of marriage.
"I met her in a gymnasium one night," said J.W. "I was going with the girl that introduced me to her, and I just dropped that other girl right there. Oh, she was so beautiful.
"We just feel in love at first sight," said Mable. Married in 1937, they were apart only once in their marriage, when J.W. was fighting in the pacific during World War II.
"Naturally, I was worried about him because I knew he was going into battle, and I wrote him a letter everyday," said Mable. The Best's family held a celebration in J.W. and Mable's honor Saturday, and they both say there is only one key to a long marriage.
"Love and devotion," said J.W. "Love will make it last, if you have love. I think I love her a lot more now than I did when we met." The Best's are not sure what they'll do for their 75th anniversary, but they say they're looking forward to it.
