Chili Cook off

It was a competition in the name of chili.  Thursday, Kilgore held it's 14th annual "Oilmen's Chili Cook off." Thousands packed downtown Kilgore as more than 60 businesses dished out bowls of chili, all claiming to be the best in town.

Some went all out with costumes and elaborate booths, others hoped their chili was enough to win over the judges. Aside from taste, other categories for judging included aroma, color, texture, and aftertaste. Each team says they have the perfect blend.

Steve Roach, a cook off team member, says "We've got a spicy, we've got a little sweet, just a perfect blend.  It doesn't put you down, just satisfies you."

Scott Clark, another cook off team member, says "Once you get it just right, you know it, it will wink at you, when you get it right, there's nothing like good chili.

National Oilwell Varco from Kilgore took home first place.  All of the proceeds from the chili cook off went to the "Crisis Center of Kilgore."
