Kinky Freidman, the 2006 Independent candidate running for Texas governor, made a campaign stop in Tyler this afternoon. He stopped by Hasting's on Broadway to sign posters, take pictures and talk to his followers. He says it's a spiritual campaign and not a political campaign. People from all over East Texas came out to see him. At times the line went all the way to the back of the store. Friedman while he was there talked about casinos as a possible solution to the education funding problem in Texas.
"I say legalize casino gambling all over Texas, but let the local authorities vote on it.," said Freidman. "Each county, so if Padre Island doesn't want casinos down there they vote it out. If Tyler doesn't want casinos that's fine. Vote against it, but that would solve the education problem, the whole deal."
Freidman also says this will only be successful if the money is used for what it is supposed to be used for, and that will only happen if there is a governor that truly cares about education.
