A sinkhole of historic proportions in Smith county, and its cause is still a mystery.
This morning, someone passing through FM 724 saw the sinkhole in the middle of the road. It's about two miles north of Tyler Pounds Regional Airport, just outside New Harmony.
Crews with TX-DOT say, ever since then, the hole has been growing steadily. They say it's now 40 to 50 feet in diameter and up to 100 feet deep.
A DPS helicopter from Garland flew over the hole to try to figure out what happened.
The location of that sinkhole, along a stretch of FM 724 between Highways 64 and 110 will be closed indefinitely.
